2007 Concord秋游

又是一年红叶时。今年的天气和往年相比似乎反常的暖和，以致于新英格兰地区的红叶又推迟了几天。
今年没有继续往常去Vermont的传统，一是因为meet在攒假， 二是因为我刚上班一个星期似乎不宜出游。所以星期天就跟meet临时决定就去麻省西边的公园里走动走动。而这次去的是Concord镇上的North Bridge Park，也就是记念当年美国独立站打响的“莱克星顿的枪声“的地方。
战争纪念碑的背后，记载着独立战的开始，1775年，4月19日。

正前方的石碑上，则刻着下面一段诗：
BY THE RUDE BRIDGE THAT ARCHED THE FLOOD,
THEIR FLAG TO APRIL'S BREEZE UNFURLED,
HERE ONCE THE EMBATTLED FARMERS STOOD,
AND FIRED THE SHOT THAT HEARD ROUND THE WORLD.

Concord Hymn
BY the rude bridge that arched the flood,
Their flag to April's breeze unfurled,
Here once the embattled farmers stood,
And fired the shot heard round the world.
The foe long since in silence slept;
Alike the conqueror silent sleeps;
And Time the ruined bridge has swept
Down the dark stream which seaward creeps.
On this green bank, by this soft stream,
We set to-day a votive stone;
That memory may their deed redeem,
When, like our sires, our sons are gone.
Spirit, that made those heroes dare
To die, and leave their children free,
Bid Time and Nature gently spare
